Reviews for this Album

this album is amazing. Crushed is awesome!!!! especially live.

I have both denfense against the genre and is a real boy.now with their third album it completes it.it's the best.max bemis is godd.i might not have their earlier work like Baseball but, I should in the future. But hands down this is the album of the year. This is rge greatest. Thanks Max and everyone else that contributed to this album.

This is so good.
I love it and can't stop listening to it.
(:
well done guys, more songs that your fans can really relate to.

Its no surprise that the creative and intelligent lyrics from previous records return for the third album. Still the same Say Anything sound but no one song sounds like the one before. I think you boys might have outdone yourselves. Congrats. For anyone who hasnt seen Say Anything live, get your butt off the couch and go purchase a ticket at the closest venue to your city. In my honest opinion, they're fantastic on the records but the live shows are even more amazing. I've seen them perform at least four times in Chicago. Not one show is the same, each experience makes you wana jump in the mosh pit and sing along regardless of your age. Kudos guys.

Definetly my favorite album so far. I know In Defense had so many songs on it, but I felt like things got repetitious after awhile. ...Is a Real Boy was my favorite over In Defense, but this Definetly tops them both. "Do Better" will not leave my head [no complaints there] & I like "She Won't Follow You", "Ahh.. Men"'s ideas too. NO COMPLAINTS. I got the deluxe pre-ordered version of it, so I have a few more songs than usual and "Hate Everyone" video =EPIC. Saw them Nov 1st @ Philly's TLA, too =EPICCC. Definetly a must-have. Great Job!

this is their best so far!

This album is the best so far!!!!!
Honestly, I never thought anything could top Is/was a real boy, but this one definitely does. While I like all of the Say Anything albums, this one has earned a special place in my heart. The acerbic, witty writing and catchy hooks are still there, and although the album is still dark (wouldn't be Say Anyting if is wasn't) , it has a more positive spin than its predecessors. I gave it a couple listens on my way to the Highline Ballroom show and it just put me in the perfect frame of mind for an awesome night out. BTW you guys killed it! I have seen you four or five times and this show was definitely the best! Thank you for putting on an incredible show and making such a heartfelt, witty, and dare I say, spiritual album. This one will be in my CD player for the next year or so.

GREATEST. ALBUM. OF. ALL. TIME.

It's just as good as ...Is a Real Boy/...Was a Real Boy and In Defense of the Genre. I love you guys!!! MARRY ME!!!!!!

(My friend also loves it).

Amazing new album! especially love do better and death for my birthday

I could say so much about this album, so all I'm gonna say is- It's everything I could have hoped for in their new album. I love it. The sign of an amazing album is that I can listen to it completely, love every song, then listen to it again.

Arguably their best offering to date, although all are incredible. The writing on this one has somehow gotten even better and the eclectic mix of irony, humor, melancholy, and daily existence continues to impressively come off as so intuitive and that's a big part of what makes SA's music so enjoyable. Great job SA!

I'm addicted to this album. This CD will be permanently attached to my CD player. Say Anything has restored my faith in music (at least I have one band I can trust to not do a song with Lil Wayne like Weezer did). I can't decide which song I like best, it changes every time I listen.

My only regret is that I'm too poor to see them live or else I'd be in my car on my way to Atlanta right now. Wait... what if I sell my car? Then take a bus. No No... that's insane. OR IS IT?

I got this album, put it on my iPod and listened to it from beginning to end....now I can't listen to anything else. I've only been able to listen to a few other songs, and they've been songs from "...Is A Real Boy"/"...Was A Real Boy" and "In Defense of the Genre." This album is AMAZING. It's SO nice to have an album I can listen to on my iPod that I don't want to skip any songs, I can just play the first song and let it go through the whole album...then listen to it again. The songs are awesome and easy to relate with. Say Anything is nothing short of GENIUS. I haven't heard a song of theirs that I didn't like. They're amazing album to album as well as live. I love this album and I LOVE Say Anything! <3

the whole cd is amazing!
cemetery is the most astonishing song i've ever hear!

Perfect mix of ...is a real boy and Baseball. Say Anything manages to incorporate the expressive explosion of both of the older albums mentioned above, and also uses the more Yellow Cat (slash) Red Cat type electronic gilt with the personality and vulnerably openness of I Want to Know Your Plans. If Jesus were a band, he'd be Say Anything!!!!

oh.my.goodness.
****fucking amazing-ass lyrics!!!!****
not even listening to the cd yet, and having fallen in love..is a wonderful thing.
Say Anything is NEVER a let down.

i like this album alot, but i feel like its getting more and more pop. i like the originals better. i wish max would get back to his old music, but i still love his music.

I didn't think I'd ever like album more than I like In Defense Of The Genre but I have a new favorite.

great album.
new sound.

The guys in this band outdid themselves. This album is distinctly Say Anything yet majorly diverse. With song styles from ranging from the modern pop-punk sound to shoe-bop 50's swing style, these guys never cease to amaze me. Creativity must flow in their blood. Definitely my favorite album of the year. I saw them this year at Marquee in Tempe. They're amazing live. Great job, guys.

I love the song "Do Better". The music makes me feel better. It's just an all-together happy feeling song.

I love the songs that i have heard don't have the cd yet but will in the future. Their last two were the best cd's i ever bought and hope to see alot more of that!!

Not a review as such, but I've just been let down by the bias in legal downloading of this album. Is there any good reason it is unavailable to download outside the US (or in the UK, at least)? Not impressed. Especially considering the apparent lack of availability of physical copies in record stores over here.

Okay guy who is two below me, if you only have is a real boy, in defense of the genre, and say anything. Then you do not have the full set of all of their albums, you are missing baseball menorah/major, and junior varsity. Not to be rude or anything, but I expected a fan to know this. But no harm done I guess because it's nearly impossible to get Baseball unless you download over the web because i looked it up wanting to buy it, and it was listed and around $250. But I still have the music from it. But next time you post something about their albums make sure you list them all. Despite the fact that max, dismisses baseball as their original album. It still is and a great one at that.

Anyways this album was amazing, when I first got it my buddy heard it and wanted to buy it off me for twenty bucks being a true fan I played with it in my mind I mean it was double what I payed for it and I could've just bought it again and made ten bucks but I just kept the album. We now both own the album and listen to it all the time. Haha though it starts to skip after crush'd finishes so we can never here the end of that song on his copy if we want to listen to the rest of the CD. Well keep pumpin out the badass tunes man.

This is yet another in the great line of work produced by Mr. Bemis. He is by far one of the wittiest individuals on the face of the earth. His insight on his choice of topics is very intriguing and well thought out. The more and more I see him in live performances it is becoming obvious that not only is he mastering his lyrical abilities but also his vocal control. Great work. If anyone has an idea where I can purchase Baseball or any of the 3 EP’s I would pay large sums of money. Please let me know at jbocks@corradino.com

Doesnt matter though.
Am i the only one who hates loving this band?
Honestly.
Say Anything is absolutely and unspeakably epic, but instead of being ecstatic when i am done listening to them, i am just flat out sad. like, sad sad.
i dont know what it is. loving them too much?
possibly. or the fact that a band can actually be this good, and their popularity is growing rapidly, yeah that sucks. Not for Say Anything, of course, but im going to admit it; i liked having Say anything, this weird and amazing band that no one knew, to listen to when no one else knew them.
ha, i just wish i wasnt as in love with Say Anything as i am.
Oh well. i am. you guys are my sanctuary. my place to smack out what needs smacking when life sucks. your brutal honesty is what every person needs to hear, and im glad you accomplish that in such a catchy way ^^
you're all i look up to, all i need to get out of bed, and the only freaking band who is stuck in my head 22 hours a day.
enough said Smiling
for now.
or never.
i'll never stop talking about say anything.

I can't stop listening to this record. My girlfriend has already gotten two of the lyrics from the record tattooed and i am hoping to add a few in the near future. This record encapsulates all the things you loved about ...Is A Real Boy & In Defense of The Genre and still manages to have its own sound. Max wasn't afraid to experiment with other instruments aside from the stereotypical guitar&bass. Coby Linder (the drummer) has a lot of vocal parts on this record which lend a whole new element to the songs. Max does some really cool stuff with the guitars on this record (Do Better, She Won't Follow You, and Death for My Birthday). This record also features something that was lost on In Defense of The Genre, female vocals. The melodies sung by Sheri (Max's wife) are phenomenal and make every song ten times better and also induce a little nostalgia in those listeners who remember songs like "Yellow Cat (Slash) Red Cat" and "Woe" from ...Is A Real Boy. The track "Property" has a very intriguing beginning and is a total nod to the song "Most Beautiful Plague" from ...Is A Real Boy. As a collective work of music this album has that great quality where you can listen to it from beginning to end over and over again and not get tired of it. It is by far the best record Say Anything has released to date: musically, lyrically, and performance wise. Oh yeah, this is the first Say Anything record with an awesome drum mix!

This might possibly be my favorite of all the Say Anything music. I love the lyrics. They are so meaningful and poetic.

Max Bemis and Say Anything, you have saved my life (literally) in so many ways. This album has shown me a new way to view my life and has made me a better person. I want to thank you for everthing that you have done for me and for everyone who loves your music and words.

DUDE!!!!!!! they just get better and fucking better every album. man i wish i wasn't so broke I'd pick it up in a heartbeat!!! xoxo guys!!

it's a great album don't get me wrong but i don't think it's the best one they've recorded. each album is different because the members of the band change over time and since each record is put out out a few years apart; the music of course will be different as well. it's hard to look at each album by itself because something in the back of my mind tries to compare it to their older stuff like baseball, junior varsity, or menorah/majora. but if you do look at this album by itself it is a masterpiece. max bemis is both a lyrical and musical genius and anything he writes will be amazing.

this album is amazing

This albulm was what I needed, it got straight to my heart, I wanted to get a new type of the old say anything and that's what I got outta this album and I am so happy for them. I really felt like I could relate to most of the things being sung about.

not only is say anything my favorite band but they never let me down. not once have i gotten bored of listening to their music when i have nothing else to listen to. i love pretty much every kind of music there is and i can never pick favorites but when it came down to say anything they were in far first! i love the new cd and all the songs are amazing=)

Say Anythings growth from album to album is amazing. I hate bands that sell out or lose passion with fame. The heart and depth of lyrics is still in each song, I love it. I've seen you guys live 4 times and I cant wait till you head back to the New York, New Jersey area.

this is a really great album. it sounds really great. his voice sounds a LOT different but still loved it. "Ahh, Men" and "Do Better" are by far the best new songs of the year. buy this, you won't regret it.

I love all of your music but I have to say this album is my favorite of all hands down.
