You know what I mean?
Lately a lot of people around my school have been getting into Say Anything, but mostly just the popular stuff. "Alive With the Glory of Love", "WOW, I Can Get Sexual Too", "Hate Everyone"... that stuff. I'm not trying to knock those songs because they're fantastic but it bothers me when someone says they "love" Say Anything and they only know a few songs. Needless to say I wish I could share my favorite band with the whole world because they're amazing but I guess it just bugs me when people define the kind of band they think they are by just two or three songs. They have so much amazing work, even the stuff before ...Is A Real Boy. I think what I'm getting at is that I wish the people who like a few songs look further into it and realize how truly incredible Say Anything and the story behind the band is, instead of just screaming they love them at the top of their lungs because they've heard one song a few times. I wish they could see more; hell, I wish I could see more. You know what I mean?

I'm surprised more and more people are getting into Say Anything really. Almost 75% of friends I show Say Anything to hate them and about 90% of people in my school don't like them either. But yeah, I agree, people who say they "like OMG totally love" Say Anything, or any other band for that matter, piss me off. But don't chew em out for it, introduce them to all their other amazing songs like resounding, yellow cat/red cat, spidersong, cemetary, ect.

That is true, even if it is hard to accept people that i may not necessarily like or agree with the way they treat others listening to one of my favorite bands. It does make me a little happy that SA is starting to get the recognition they deserve. and those people have their entire lives to someday realize that some of the things they may be doing are wrong. It would make me especially happy if SA are the ones to make them realize that too.

No, no. I understand. It's hard to believe that someone could identify with SA songs if they don't have a soul (no pun intended) or they just don't seem like they could possibly get it. I'm sure some of them do, and even if people don't always get the messages it's great that the band is being heard at the very least.

Yes that is true, and i try to keep an open mind about other peoples feelings and issues. Not all the time i will admit, but it is when you know that people have the potential to create something good and beneficial from there issues. Although instead they alienate and go out of their way to intentionally harm others over meaningless things like dress and psychical appearance based on loose stereotypes and indoctrinated thinking. what they are doing may be transference, which is only natural but nobody takes the time to stop and think of their actions and why they are doing it and that only makes matters worse for everybody. and to loosely connect that to the beginning topic, I really dislike it when people who choose to be shallow and seemingly heartless do things like listen to this or that band only to belong in an already discriminatory social scene. And when this or that band is SA it almost tarnishes the message i believe they are trying to send.
I hope that lengthy explanation makes me seem less cold... I really am not a angry person!

Keoni, it is condescending... but I totally agree. You just feel like 'you have no depths in any other situation, why would you understand this at all?' But you have to take into account their own problems, while they may not even be an annoyance if they were yours, are big to them. Even if they are shallow, they still feel.

I hate it when that happens especially if it is a group of people you despise for there shallow shit eating personalities, and they say they care for something you love. It makes me want to call bullshit on them and tell them that there life is meaningless...ooops was that a bit condicending? sorry

I agree with this 100%. Me and my brother are both hardcore Say Anything fans. We know the lyrics to like 99% of the songs beginning with "Baseball" and when people are like "OMG! Say Anything! Blah Blah Blah..." and I'm like "One of my favorite songs is Rats" or something along those lines, and they're like "HUH?" I want to just punch them. You can't truly respect the work of Max Bemis unless you know his story and all of the shit he's been through. Just as you I wish everyone appreciated this music as much as I do, but don't be a poser.
Thanks for that! This topic is something I really needed to vent about!
